- Mai Atafo’s journey into the Nigerian fashion industry started in September 2007 with the establishment of MAI ATAFO INSPIRED with specialty in suits for men, red carpet dresses and wedding outfits.
His designs are versatile, fusing both African and Western influences into his clothing line. MAI’s designs are timeless, notably classicist, but notwithstanding contemporary, clean-cut and urban.
Mai Atafo first major debut was clothing the likes of Omowunmi Akinnifesi (MBGN 2005), Pasuma Wonder and then Wale Rubber in the Maiden Edition of the TV Dance reality show "Celebrity Takes Two “by the Spirit of David.
He has since been involved in clothing and styling the hosts of major TV shows like `The Future Awards’, Hip Hop World Awards, Soundcity Music Video Awards for a high profile list including Omowunmi Akinnifesi, Raz Adoti, Ashionye and Kemi Adetiba.
Lists of his celebrity clientele are actors Stephanie Okereke, Stella Damascus, Mercy Johnson and Ramsey Nouah. Ex-Beauty Queens Omowunmi Akinnifesi, Munachi Abii, and Adaeze Igwe. Musicians include D’Banj, Banky W, Waje, Kel and Omawumi. TV presenters Cynthia Okpalla, Ill Rhymes and Isio Delavega, just to mention a few.
However, despite the endless list of his celebrity clientele MAI is focusing on delivering the highest level of service to all his customers regardless of their status. A Critic’s favourite, MAI’s aesthetic is instantly recognizable in his clothing. His notable Piece-de-resistance remains his crested blazers, which remains a fashion staple amongst the power dressers.
Though Mai Atafo intends to take his game to the next level with the opening of his first atelier in Ikoyi, Lagos he keeps himself grounded with building a strong career in Marketing as well as providing content for radio and TV programmes and directing events.
